It will never be considered anything more than a dumb, bad comedy, but still you may want to give it a chance on the off case, you actually could like the humor involved.

A short runtime and quick paced storyline keeps things moving and makes the movie much more watchable. It's one of those movies that, if you can stand, you watch late at night every once in awhile when you don't want to think about anything. While A Night at the Roxbury isn't what I'd call a great movie, it has got a place in the world of movies. If you can buy into their ridiculous performances, there is fun to be had it's just not any easy thing to do. Farrell is basically just taken like a slow teenager the whole time, while Kattan looks out the corner of his eyes and scoffs at things. The problem is with how their characters are played. Will Farrell and Chris Kattan definitely have good chemistry. They lust after one night in the hottest club in town, The Roxbury. They can't get in the clubs and when they do, they are lousy with the women. Sounds like fun, but the problem is that they fail at both. Instead, the two spend their time hitting on every woman they see and going clubbing at night. Their father owns a floral shop and wants them to work hard for the family business. Two brothers Doug and Steve still live with their parents. I like the whole idea of it, what with the clubbing, loser brothers, but the execution is just off, as it is often with ridiculous comedies like this. I'm not saying that I like it, but I can find a lot more humor in it than I once could. That being said, over the years I have accrued more appreciation for the film. However, this isn't the greatest of SNL films that honor belongs to Wayne's World 1 and 2. Compared to later SNL films, this is among the few that are funny. A decent laugh fest that is harmless fun, A Night at the Roxbury makes you laugh, and is quite underrated. But this was made back when he was funny and his career was just warming up. This is the type of film that he made that actually was funny. I enjoyed the ridiculousness of this film, and thought that the leads were pretty good. For what it is, it's a mindless comedy with decent laughs.
Though not perfect, it is a funny flick and is one of those films that should be watched with friends. As far as a film based on a skit from SNL is concerned, this is one of the better films.

Besides bombing, A Night At The Roxbury earned a disastrous 11% critic's score, stalling Ferrell's film career and killing Kattan's. As revenge, the next day, Dooey refuses them entry into Zadir's office for their meeting. He tells the brothers that Zadir was drunk out of his mind last night and does not know who they are.

It was kinda funny for six minutes, but did these guys ever even talk on SNL? Did we even know their names? Didn't matter. The one who seemed the least likely to warrant a movie was Steve Butabi, who - along with his brother, Doug (played by Chris Kattan) - was an obnoxious clubgoer who "danced" to Haddaway's "What Is Love?" Ferrell had several memorable characters during his seven-year run, including Harry Caray, Marty Culp, and Craig the Cheerleader. Ferrell was on SNL for seven years, from 1995-2002, and he might've left sooner had Roxbury not bombed with $30 million in 1998, less than half as much as the $75 million that his breakout role in Old School earned in 2003.
