It may show up in ways I do not understand. I say I have never had problems cleaning my registry, but I don't know what I am talking about. If I want to clean it, I just replace it by reinstalling Windows. I believe Microsoft do not recommend using a registry cleaner. If it becomes cluttered with a million pieces of uninstalled software, it likely still won't hamper performance, if you have an old 386. The whole thing about the registry ever needing maintenance is probably a myth. I just grab a can of Coke, and drink it while I reinstall Windows every few months to a year. How does Windows behave when its registry becomes extremely cluttered? Does it shake? Does it come to a stop? Does it stall and crash? Is it even possible that a cluttered registry can even dampen performance? I don't know. But, actually, I wouldn't know of it did, because I don't even understand how Windows would act with a grossly cluttered registry. Do what I do, reinstall Windows if the registry becomes so cluttered that it slows down or hinders the performance of Windows. If Microsoft won't come out with a cleaner for it, I think it is best not to go with a third party one. Time and time again, I read that the registry should not be touched. The rest play a "supporting role" and are nice to have. It's the first 2 proggies that see regular usage.

And once I got something set up and working why change it?Īlternate stream view/delete from Nirsoft Because they tend to bloat up and add useless features. More and more as time goes on I update all these cleaning programs less and less. It's all a cut-n-dry routine at this point. I don't use anything too aggressive and I always check to see what is getting zapped - though not as much as when I first started. The end-goal of any optimizations I do is to save space and lighten the system load. Pretty much the same stuff I've been using for years.
